Tuesday  Cardiology  Drs Kneale and Signy
Wednesday**  Diabetes and Renal  Drs Caldwell and Carr
Thursday  Respiratory  Drs Evans and Congleton

** DOME registrar works part time with Dr Caldwell

We try to keep your take days synchronised with your specialty take day, but this cannot always be done.

 On take duties

Our SHOs are usually very skilled and capable, but do require supervision. We encourage them to contact registrars and consultants. Our registrars have been willing to help juniors if the on call registrar is busy, and they are free. We expect the on call registrar to do an evening ward round of admitted patients. At weekends some consultants come in, and others phone the registrar after the post take round. All consultants prefer to be called early as a problem develops.

Out patients

Your supervising consultant will indicate which clinics you need to attend. The Renal Registrar does Dr Caldwell’s diabetes new patient clinic on a Wednesday morning, and the DOME Registrar his general medical clinic on a Tuesday morning.

Teaching

We expect you to be actively involved in teaching and supervising juniors in preparing their presentations. The Post Graduate Centre Staff will help you a great deal. I would like to see the Registrars producing imaginative programmes for education as well as teaching on the wards.

Holiday and Study Leave

We want you to take holiday and study leave. It is a great help if you can arrange this as far in advance as possible, and a minimum of six weeks in advance, so that clinics can be cancelled if necessary. Please notify your consultant(s), Dr Carr and Medical Staffing of your leave dates and cover arrangements.

Appraisal

You will have your regular RITA. We also like to involve the registrars in the appraisal of the SHOs and HPs, because you deal with them more on a day to day basis than the consultants do. Please let us know at once if you feel there is a major problem with a junior doctor.

Problems

Any problems or difficulties please let us know.
